The Seabrook Island Racquet Club, ranked in Tennis Magazine as one of the top 25 tennis resorts in the world, offers a range of activities for visitors and residents to participate, from matching players and games, private lessons, ball machine rentals, and much more. The Club, located in this posh community has a view of untouched natural beaches and hosts camps for kids and adults to improve their skills. Court reservations may be made by calling 843-768-7543 and are priced as follows. Sunday through Saturday mornings until 12pm are $15/per person. After 12pm, $12/per person. Children under 18 can use the courts any time of day for only $12/per person.
Several clinics are run by onsite professionals to improve your game. An adult stroke clinic focuses on improving your swing and costs $24 for an hour of play. For ladies or doubles in the 3.0 or 3.5 rank, a more challenging clinic puts you in the direct line of fire with other players at the same level, and the cost is only $36 for an hour and half of competitive learning. Childrens clinics for the little ones, Rising Stars, offers a fun way for 8-10 year olds to learn the sport of tennis. Intermediate All Stars, ages 10-13, and more advanced clinic for ages 13 and up, Grand Slam, challenge preteens and teenagers alike to learn the art of overheads and putting spin on the ball. These clinics are $24 for an hour. An informal competitive clinic, lasting 2 hours, for the young players is offered, called Davis Cup Madness, for $40.
Private clinics for groups may be made through the office by calling 843-768-7543. Four or more players may get an hour of instruction for $24. One and a half hours runs $36 for four or more players. The onsite tennis pros are available to instruct you and help you perfect your moves or just help ease you into the game.
Having been named one of the best resorts in the world by Tennis Magazine is just the beginning for this fabulous Racquet Club. Other awards from the Alan Fleming Tournament, with 250 plus players, has received the Best Senior Tennis Tournament Award in 1996, Southern Section Adult Tournament Award in 1996, Southern Adult Tennis Tournament Award in 2005, and the South Carolina Adult Senior Tournament of the Year in 2011. The Club has also been involved with various charities and amassed over $221,000 for the Hospice of Charleston in 2008.
The Alan Fleming Tennis Tournament is an annual event originated by a resident, Alan Fleming, who had been a ranked player prior to moving to the island, and called it the Seabrook Island Senior Tennis Tournament. The Tournament was renamed upon his death to the Alan Fleming Senior Open Clay Court State Championship Tournament, to honor his memory. In 2014, the tournament will be at a 1000 point level, played as a Category 1 National Championship event, for the Mixed Doubles, 40s, 50s and 60s events. Mixed doubles, singles, and doubles events will be offered to adults aged 35-80 years old. Currently, the tournament enjoys a distinguished rankings as a South Carolina Level 1 State Championship and Southern Section 200 point tourney.
