The past year has been one accompanied by a variety of new hardships and challenges as a result of the pandemic. Unfortunately, many families across the Lowcountry have experienced the loss of their jobs, homes, stability, and more, making charitable giving even more important for those who are willing and able.

The Seabrook Island Racquet Club recently partnered up with Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic to host our annual fundraiser which raises money for low-income and uninsured patients across the South Carolina Sea Islands. About The Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic

The Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic (BIFMC) provides free health care to eligible patients who live in the Barrier Islands surrounding Charleston, SC, including Johns Island, Wadmalaw Island, and James Island. Without the assistance of this organization, many low-income families, uninsured adults, and workers in the Charleston hospitality industry could not otherwise afford to receive the medical treatment they need.

Since opening in 2008, the BIFMC staff of 122 volunteer doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals has served more than 4,300 patients across the Lowcountry. The primary mission of the clinic is to aid those in need and create a stronger community because everyone deserves adequate health care. The free clinic is made possible through the generosity of donors across the region.

Supporting Free Healthcare for Our Sea Islands’ Communities

Since opening its doors more than 10 years ago, The Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic has received more than $1.6 million in funding. In an effort to support our local community, the Racquet Sports Committee had set the goal of raising $5k for the clinic this year. We are proud to say that we surpassed the amount and raised over $8k, almost double from last year!

In total, the fundraiser counted 42 Seabrook Island Club members who came out to support the event, with many more donating. The event was a success on and off the courts, with smiles to be had all around as participants joined in our round-robin tournament.

We want to give a special thanks to the Seabrook Island Racquet Sports Committee for supporting the event, as well as all the Seabrook Island Club members who donated and participated in the event! Without their support, none of this would have been possible. We look forward to furthering the Racquet Sports philanthropic outreach in the future and can’t wait to see what next year’s fundraiser has in store!
