Seabrook Island Named “Best Restored Beach” of 2016!

Recently the SIPOA submitted its beach project, Relocation of Cap’n Sams, to the The American Shore & Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA) for consideration in its annual Best Restored Beaches contest. This week it was announced that Seabrook is in good company with five other coastal communities!

Beach restoration involves placing beach quality sand in a specific area to offset or prevent erosion. According to the ASBPA, the three main reasons for beach restoration are: 1. Storm Protection; 2. Habitat Restoration; 3. Recreation.

Coastal communities from around the country entered their projects into the competition for consideration and an independent board of coastal managers and scientists selected the winners. According to the ASBPA press release, selection was based on:
