Seabrook Seafood and Summer Entertaining Essentials By: Joy Dellapina and Kathleen McCormack, Seabrook Island Real Estate Broker Agents

Beach picnic with wine, fruit, and cheese on a blanket. On the same blanket lies a hat, cushion, basket, and a guitar.

As our residents know too well, when you live on Seabrook Island, family, friends, and loved ones flock to visit! It’s a special place where people create special memories, with pristine beaches and sheer natural beauty serving as the perfect backdrop. Entertaining and enjoying that mouthwatering seabrook seafood is a way of life here—a staple, if you will. Southern hospitality at its finest can always be found on our treasured, private oceanfront oasis.

To help make sure that your gathering is complete with the most fabulous local foods, libations, and décor, we’ve curated a list of our go-to recommendations that will make your family get-together, porch party, or backyard BBQ the envy of the Island.

How to Make Summer Entertaining a Breeze

It all starts with great food…

A bountiful display of appetizers and hors d’oeuvres is always a crowd-pleaser. For a beautiful and lavish selection of some of the finest charcuterie boards and appetizers, look no further than On The Board Charleston. Crafted with quality ingredients—the best selection of meats, cheeses, fruits, nuts, flatbreads—there’s something for everyone and the displays are glorious!

When moving onto the main course—the ever-popular Lowcountry Boil, a Seabrook seafood favorite, might be on the menu. If so, head right over to Simply Seafood for the freshest seafood and be sure to gather your other boil ingredients and local produce at either Storey Farms or Rosebank Farms. Fresh corn, sausage, potatoes—whatever you need—they’ll have!

If you’re up for a BBQ or Roast, you can count on Ted’s Butcher Block for the highest quality meats and provisions. Ted’s boasts the finest hand-cut meats for even the most discerning grill-master from burgers and filet mignon to poultry and artisanal bacon and sausage. Based in Downtown Charleston, Ted’s also delivers pre-order weekly Butcher Bags, curated with premium beef, chicken, pork, and seafood to stock your fridge. Pick up your order at Rosebank Farms Market on Johns Island every Monday at the designated time for free or have it delivered right to your doorstep on Wednesday afternoons for an additional $20 fee.

And, you can’t forget the finale—sweet treats! Trust us when we say, run, don’t walk, to take out pints of Kinfolk’s mouth-watering homemade, soft-serve ice cream. Churned right in the store, it’s as creamy as it is flavorful. Put it on top of some of the fruit/nut pies from St. Honore Pastry (available at Storey Farms). If you want an iconic Charleston dessert, the cakes and pies from Kaminsky’s are all delicious—but we’re partial to their coconut cream, Toll House, and pecan pies.

Libations and Thirst-Quenchers…

With so many ways to imbibe locally, where do you even begin? Certainly, Kiawah Spirits is one of the closest and best starting points. Wines, spirits, liqueurs…it’s all there—and top-shelf. Signature Lowcountry cocktails you might serve include a Charleston Bloody Mary (with a kick, of course), a bourbon sour, and who can resist a traditional Margarita or Mojito. Of course, you can pick up Low Tide Brewing for beer lovers, which offers a range of craft beers, including IPAs & sours in cans and growlers to go.

One would be remiss if good ol’ Lemonade and Sweet Tea were left off the list of must-haves for Southern entertaining (especially if you have a wrap-around porch). In the spirit of buying local, we just love Lowcountry Lemonade. Their lemonades and teas are available at select area farmer’s markets and worth the trip!

Of course, it must look good…

The key to great entertaining is pulling it all together with décor and accessories to enhance and add ambiance. You can create an inviting and chic event by incorporating décor that not only serves a function but also makes a statement. Tablescapes are all the rage and you can find beautiful serving pieces, settings, and candles at GDC Home.

And, with fabulous local artisans, there’s always a way to infuse Lowcountry, coastal design elements. One of our favorites is Blue Moon Art, offering hand-painted, high-end acrylic serving trays. These versatile trays add the perfect balance of beauty and function!

If you’re fortunate enough to grow your own flowers and herbs, then, by all means, personalize the table with fresh-cut flowers from your garden. Otherwise, Suzanne’s Floral Studio can customize beautifully crafted arrangements. Rosebank Farms is a reliable spot for beautiful seasonal arrangements and fresh-cut bouquets as well. We’re partial to the simple beauty of their fresh cut-hydrangeas.

Hopefully, you’ll enjoy some of these favorite seabrook seafood and summer entertaining recommendations and local merchants as much as we do—happy entertaining!
