Seabrook Island Equestrian Center

The Equestrian Center on Seabrook Island offers a rare opportunity for visitors and residents to ride horseback on three miles of beautiful trails along the beach. Riding packages from beginner to advanced skill levels are offered throughout the year. Pony rides for children up to 8 years old can be purchased by the half hour, leisurely guided trail rides are available for beginners, or more advanced riders can choose to head to the North Beach for a thrilling adventure.

Activities & Rates

Kids can enjoy their first rides on a pony from 9-2pm and by appointment for only $45 per half hour. Early or inexperienced riders can tour the trails and view the elegant charm of the natural habitat surrounded by exquisite beaches for $75. Walking rides, guided by professional equestrians at the center, can be made by appointment. For the skilled rider, advanced reservations are requested and require at least three years of recent experience with the canter, walk, and trot, for $150. The hours vary seasonally, and Sundays are closed.

Private Lessons

Those interested can reserve times for private lessons taught by the staff of the Equestrian Center by making advanced appointments throughout the year. All skill levels can refine their riding techniques and learn better handling on well-behaved horses provided by the center. Lessons are only $65 per half hour. Several awards have been won by Seabrook students and trainers, including the SCHJA Best Sportsmanship Award, the SC Governor’s Cup, Champion and Reserve Champion in the Adult Palmetto Medal, as well as the SCHJA Best Child Rider on a Horse.


Having forty-two stalls, the center also allows residents and non-residents/visitors to board their horses. Long term and short term options are offered. For those needing longer boarding, rates are $800. Daily boarding is just $55 per day.

Horses at the Equestrian Center

The Center’s horses include Fred, a breeding stock paint horse with two white socks and commonly is found riding the trails. Lacey, used in shows, is an American Paint horse who loves trails, the beach, and is often used in lessons. Nick, a sorrel quarter horse gelding, is an older horse that is great for beginners. Leo is a Paint Horse gelding who is perfect for the advanced rider and can be ridden either in an English or western style. Danny is an older horse that is usually found with a trainer riding him during guided tours. He is a gentle Quarter Horse/Morgan Cross with an easygoing personality. Other horses in the stables are Silky, Domino, Lady, Fancy and Dewey.

With so many options for horse lovers, the Equestrian Center at Seabrook is a perfect place to find your niche and enjoy the island in an active yet stress relieving way. The horses are waiting for you to go for a ride, or bring your own and enjoy the winding trails throughout the island.
