More than $3 Million in Golf Upgrades at Seabrook Island Club
Impressive Investments In Seabrook Island Club’s Golf Courses and Programs.
When considering joining a golf club, enthusiasts rightly assess many factors, including course conditions, practice facilities, staff, pro shops, and clubhouses. Seabrook Island excels in all these areas.
As a golf member at Seabrook Island Club, you will experience uncrowded playing conditions on 36 holes of championship golf across two distinct courses. The natural surroundings on both are beautiful and undisturbed. In fact, Seabrook Island Club was the first golf course in South Carolina to join the “Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf” in 1996 and continues to maintain its certification today. Members and their guests are guaranteed privacy, a refreshing pace of play, and superb service.
The member experience here is paramount, and significant ongoing golf course investments set the award-winning Seabrook Island Club apart from other South Carolina golf clubs.
Multi-Million Dollar Golf Course Updates
Our Golf and Greens Committee is currently leading a multi-million-dollar project to further enhance the Crooked Oaks Golf Course, including bulkhead and bunker repairs, a new golf cart fleet, and a new irrigation system. Thanks to strategic planning and a solid budget, Seabrook Island Club is able to make this level of investment into our courses for our members.
Bulkhead & Bunker Repairs
Beginners may wonder…
What is a bulkhead?
Bulkheads are walls that retain water or sand in a bunker and separate it from another area of the course. Their primary purpose is to make it possible to place a putting green close to a water hazard for an extra challenge.
What is a golf bunker?
A golf bunker is a depression in the ground filled with sand instead of grass. Bunkers are also called “sand traps” or “traps”.
When it comes to bunkers, nothing is more important than drainage and sand. The newly completed Crooked Oaks bunker repairs comprised a new drainage system, new liners, and new sand at holes #5, #6, #7, and #15. Then, for a little more of a challenge, bulkhead repairs were performed at holes #8, #10, #13, and #18.
Other Recent Golf Course Improvements
- New practice mats
- Installation of a new lightning alert system
- About 2 acres of new sod were laid along the courses.
Upcoming Golf Course Improvements
- 2.7 million dollar Crooked Oaks Irrigation Project
- New golf cart fleet in 2024
The Pro Shop and Its Staff
When deciding where to become a golf club member, it’s also essential to consider the Pro Shop’s quality and its staff. This summer, Seabrook Island Club welcomed two more PGA Professionals to its team.
Meet The New Pros
Andrew “AJ” Schneller
AJ has a deep passion for teaching and helping others enjoy the game of golf, which is evident the moment you meet him. As the son of a club golf professional, he has a strong background in the sport. He graduated from Loyola University New Orleans, where he played on the golf team, worked part-time at New Orleans Country Club, and earned his degree in Finance. He now lives in Charleston with his wife, Jules, and their yellow lab, Henry.
Aaron McClelland
Aaron and his girlfriend, Haley, recently relocated to Charleston from Lake Keowee in upstate South Carolina, where Aaron worked at the Keowee Key Golf Club. Originally from Seattle, he obtained his Professional Golf Management degree from New Mexico State University and is a proud member of the PGA of America.
The Pro Shop at Seabrook Island is well-stocked, offering more than 30 popular brands such as Calloway, Greg Norman, Chelsea Charles, Cutter & Buck, Puma, and Bag, available in women’s, men’s, and junior golf apparel, golf accessories, jewelry, and lifestyle products. The shop staff is highly knowledgeable and welcoming, making members feel comfortable and confident in their purchases.
Booking a tee time is easy, with members logging into the online member portal and choosing from the Crooked Oaks or Ocean Winds course. PGA professionals with solid reputations for working with golfers of every ability on every aspect of their games provide instruction at the Club.
Fall Session Perks
PGA Professional-led coaching sessions with Aaron and AJ are designed to help club members improve their golf skills.
This Fall, they offer Ladies Academy “Operation 36 Golf”. This developmental program utilizes advanced technology to introduce and guide anyone playing golf. Classes are small, with a 6:1 student-to-coach ratio, ensuring personalized attention for long-term development. Students play 9 holes from division 1 (25 yards) and follow a motivating roadmap to shooting Par (36) or better for 9 holes.
The fun and engaging lessons include games and training activities proven to help players improve. These lessons also provide a means for building new friendships.
In addition to existing weekly coaching sessions, the “Get Golf Ready” Series and Member Golf Schools will soon launch the following programs.
- Men’s Casual 9-hole group
- Play with the Pro
- Monthly Saturday Fun on the range sessions where members can work with Pros to check their Smash Factor, Lie Angles, Video Review, and more
