My family and I had been coming to South Carolina for years. Since my early twenties in fact. The plan had always been to retire here. And hailing from Ohio, that is actually a little-known state law. We all HAVE to move to South Carolina hence all those Ohio license plates. We were Hilton Head people but the area became more and more…active. So we expanded our search.
We stopped in Charleston on one of our return trips and fell for the city. We decided to see if there was a beach community in the area where we could purchase a vacation property. A place that while near the city was very quiet and peaceful. We were introduced to Seabrook Island. And on the fourth visit here my wife told me we were not leaving without purchasing a home here. We did. On that trip.
What started as a twenty-year plan to get a vacation home and rent it out until our children were off to college and we were thinking retirement soon changed. We fell more in love with Seabrook and much less so with the eleven hours to get here. Worse still, were the eleven hours when we had to leave to head north. So the long-term plan became a short-term one and we pulled our three kids from school in Ohio and moved full time to Seabrook. And we have never looked back.
I had been a Realtor in Cincinnati for a dozen years so naturally, I started up here on the island working for Seabrook Island Real Estate. We purchased knowing at that time Club membership was now required and have been proud Club members since. Working for the Club’s real estate division was a natural choice.
Now we have been Seabrookers for almost fifteen years. I have worked in real estate that whole time. We have raised our children here, schooled them in Charleston, sent two off to college in South Carolina, built a new home here, and enjoyed every moment of our time on Seabrook. So if you have any questions about making Seabrook Island part of your plans, I would be most pleased to be of assistance. It certainly worked for us!
